Bermuda Win More Medals In Caribbean Cycling

Bermuda’s cyclists put on an impressive showing at the Elite Caribbean Cycling Championships in the Dominican Republic, with two more medals won on the final day of competition.

BBA President Peter Dunne said, “It was a long but fruitful day for Bermuda’s cyclists at the 18th Elite Caribbean Cycling Championships. Caitlin Conyers finishes second in the women’s road race, effectively qualifying a spot for Bermuda in the 2019 PanAm Games.

“Teammate Gabriella Arnold was the only U23 rider in the race of 17 riders and came away with the U23 champion’s jersey for her work, four years after she won the junior title in the same city.

“In the men’s road race, Dominique Mayho recorded his best ever placing in the elite event with a seventh place, leading the chasing peloton out of the last turn with 500 meters to go. A lead group of five riders scooped the medals.

“Conor White, racing in this event for the first time road strong all morning and finished 33rd, just off the back of the group Mayho brought home.

“Coupled with the silver medal in the time trial on Saturday, White has had a superb showing and bodes well for Bermuda men at future installments of the regional championships. The 2019 event is being planned for Port-ah-Prince, Haiti.
