100WF Celebrates International Women’s Day

On Tuesday [March 5], Bermuda’s 100 Women in Finance [100WF] celebrated the lead-up to International Women’s Day with a fireside chat between finance industry veterans.

A spokesperson said, “Robin Masters, CFA, Non-executive Director and Maria Marsh, Principal and Director of Human Capital at Nephila, shared career experiences and insight into how younger industry participants can develop leadership skills.”

Ms. Masters said, “I retired as Chief Investment Officer of ACE in 2000 without having next steps clearly defined. In recent years, part of the reason I have been active as a non-executive director is that sharing my skills is one way I can give back. I would encourage any young professionals who are seeking eventual director appointments to volunteer for a not-for-profit or government board to experience board proceedings first-hand.”

Laura Knox Clingerman, Head of Director Services at Wakefield Quin, Maria Marsh, Principal and Director of Human Capital at Nephila, Anne Marwick, Director, Orbis Investment Management Limited, Erin Williams, Investment Counsellor, Orbis Investments, Robin Masters, CFA, Non-Executive Director, Alison Morrison, Advisory Services at EY Bermuda and Chair of 100 Women in Finance in Bermuda

Inspiring Women Leaders Bermuda March 6 2019

“Ms. Marsh shared her experience including growing with Nephila as a startup and through its firm history. She emphasized the importance of taking risks in one’s career and building a support network, starting with family and female friends, to colleagues, and seeking out role models that may be outside of one’s industry. Anne Marwick, Director, Orbis Investment Management Limited, moderated the event.”

Ms. Marsh said, “Orbis is delighted to host the second event in the 100WF 2019 Orbis Education Series. We believe in encouraging female members of our industry and in sharing our knowledge to increase opportunities.”

“Laura Knox Clingerman, Head of Director Services with Wakefield Quin group and Co-Chair of 100WF’s Education Committee, concluded the discussion.”

Ms. Knox Clingerman said, “Our event was standing room only at the National Gallery and we are excited to welcome many new faces to 100WF. It was really inspirational to hear our panelists’ career paths. I think many of us are energized by seeing a strong response to International Women’s Day events in Bermuda this week, and by recognizing that success in finance roles may be earned by women from different educational backgrounds.

“Our speakers’ fantastic examples will propel audience members and encourage us to step forward to our next challenge.”

“The event took place ahead of Bermuda’s now-annual International Women’s Day celebration, which takes place on Friday March 8th at City Hall. This year, it focuses on promoting gender diversity, allowing several speakers to share short, personal perspectives on the International Woman’s Day movement, including Broadway veteran and film actress, Ms. Kates. Members of the public and local organisations are encouraged to participate in the celebration.

“The next Bermuda 100WF education event will be sponsored by CFA Society Bermuda in recognizing the global Female Fund Managers initiative. Interested members of Bermuda’s asset management and financial services industries may join here.

“Members of the public and corporate groups are also invited to support 100WF’s 2019 local beneficiary by attending 100WF’s annual gala at Sandymount on June 22. Please contact bermuda@100women.org with queries.”
