Trey Simons blazed his way to a personal best for the second time inside of a week competing for Moorehouse College at the Queens University of Charlotte Invitational in North Carolina last week.

He finished fourth in the men’s eight-kilometre cross-country race in a time of 23min 52sec. Simons slashed more than a minute off his previous best 24:57.4, which he achieved while winning the men’s cross-country race at the Robert Shumake HBCU Challenge the previous week.

Donna Raynor, the Bermuda National Athletics Association president, is delighted for Simons to return from a back injury in a big way.

“I’m really excited about Trey because last season he had a bad fall and wasn’t running near the end of the season,” she said. “We were hoping he would go to CAC Games and the NACAC Championships but he couldn’t, so for him to come back so strong is awesome.”

“We were hoping he would go to the CAC Games and the NACAC Championships but he couldn’t, so for him to come back so strong is awesome and I am very happy and pleased.

“Pretty soon Trey will be getting ready for the indoor and outdoor season and my hope is that he can keep on running well because the Pan Am Games and the World Championships are next year.

“It would be nice to see Trey, Dage [Minors] and Shaquille [Bean] stay healthy and we may be able to have a really good team.”
